Bringing Alarms into Focus – Event Gateway for Milestone XProtect

Over the years, we’ve spent a lot of time helping teams simplify their workflows inside Milestone. One request we kept hearing—especially from those juggling intrusion systems and video—is: “Can’t I just manage everything in one place?”

Now you can!

The ORBNET Event Gateway is a lightweight software plugin that connects intrusion alarm panels to Milestone XProtect. It brings events and status updates directly into the Smart Client—and just as importantly, it can forward Milestone events out to a central ARC, using standard protocols like SIA DC-09 and Contact ID.

It’s built around one idea: total awareness from a single pane of glass.

The Problem We're Solving

Operators shouldn’t need to bounce between consoles to understand what’s going on. The second an alarm triggers—whether it’s a panic button, door sensor, or motion detector—it should appear in the same place they’re already working: Milestone.

With Event Gateway, every alarm becomes a native part of the VMS. You see real-time status updates. Zones change colour. Alarm Manager populates automatically. And cameras close to the event can trigger and display without delay.

It’s no longer “go find the panel” or “call someone to check”—you’re already looking at the answer.

Under the Hood: What Event Gateway Does

The plugin works in both directions:

  • Inbound: Pulls in events from third-party alarm panels, mapping them to alarm zones in Milestone. Any sensor or input supported by the panel can be visualised, logged, and reacted to inside the Smart Client.
  • Outbound: Forwards Milestone-based events (like analytics, triggers, or panic button actions) out to an Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) using formats like SIA and Contact ID. That means verified alarms can be escalated instantly—without needing separate communicators.

Two-Way Control for Honeywell and Intelbras

What makes Event Gateway a little different is its depth. With supported panels, we’re not just listening—we’re speaking too.

  • Honeywell Galaxy and Intelbras systems support two-way integration.
  • Operators can arm/disarm systems, bypass zones, or check real-time system status—all from inside Milestone.

No more jumping over to a web UI or a keypad on the wall. It’s fast, intuitive, and reduces mistakes in critical moments.

Scenarios That Just Work

Let’s keep it grounded with a few examples:

  • Unverified alarm at 2am? The alarm zone flashes red, the associated cameras pull up automatically, and the operator confirms or cancels based on what they see—without guessing.
  • Fire panel sends a trigger? It’s logged in Milestone, PTZs swing to cover the zone, and relevant footage is saved with full audit trail.
  • ARC needs visibility? Verified events from inside the VMS are pushed out via SIA or Contact ID—straight to the monitoring centre, complete with zone info.
  • Site-wide disarming for a late shift? No need to get the keys or check multiple systems. It’s all there in the client, one click away.

Extending Beyond Intruder Panels

While we’ve focused on traditional intruder systems, it’s worth noting that Event Gateway isn’t limited to alarm panels alone. The framework is flexible enough to proxy or ingest events from almost any external device—whether it’s access control, environmental monitoring, or even custom hardware. If a system can output a digital event, chances are we can bring it into XProtect and make it visible to your operators. That makes the Gateway a future-ready tool for integrations that don’t fit the standard mould.

Final Thoughts

Alarm systems and video shouldn’t live in isolation. By connecting them properly—and making them visible through the tools teams already use—we reduce response times, stress, and confusion.

Event Gateway isn’t just a connector. It’s a step toward smarter, joined-up security, and one we think makes a real difference in control rooms of all sizes.
